FOLLOW UP CARE |
|
It's important to have follow-up tests and an exam within
4-6 weeks after the emergency room visit. You can be seen by your private
clinician or the UVa Gynecology Clinic to check for possible pregnancy
or sexually transmitted diseases and to talk about counseling.
If you are a UVa student, follow-up care can be provided at Student Health. It's best if you call Student Health as soon as possible to talk to a nurse about a follow-up appointment. In addition to this book, the hospital staff will give you a card with the names of the staff who treated you, the police officer who took your report (if you did report), the name of the SARA or Victim/Witness representative who provided accompaniment, and phone numbers of the clinic to call for your follow-up appointment. After the ExaminationIf you wish to shower before leaving, the emergency room nurse will provide you with soap and shampoo, towels and fresh clothing if needed. TransportationIf you don't have a ride and if you don't need to accompany a law enforcement officer for further questioning, transportation home or to a safe place may be arranged with a family member, friend, victim advocate, or by the local law enforcement agency. |
